Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager, enthusiastic, hard-working, and creative. All of them speak a language other than English at home and are learning English at school. All of them receive free lunch because of their low socioeconomic status. My goal is to provide my students with rich educational experiences that support them as they build their reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills in English. I also create opportunities for engineering, problem solving, and hands on science activities, which encourage them to use higher level thinking and academic language. Your support for my students shows that you see their potential as contributors to our community.
My Project
We have a great U shaped table where I meet with small groups of students for focused reading and math instruction. Stools will allow me to work with five instead of four kids, and will take up less space in the classroom. Wobble stools have become popular because teachers say that kids are more attentive when they are using them.
I think these stools will help students who struggle with focus, and give us the added benefit of taking up less space.
The bins will allow me to create "Morning Work Tubs" which each group of students will use to work cooperatively on Math, Reading and Engineering in the morning as we begin our day.
