Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are curious, creative, and eager to learn more about the world around them. One of the best ways to spark their interest in history and nonfiction is through engaging texts, and the Who Was book series is perfect for that! Unfortunately, my classroom library currently lacks nonfiction books that help students explore real people, events, and ideas that have shaped the world.

With your support, I would love to build a classroom collection of Who Was books to help students dive into the lives of influential figures from history.

These biographies will not only introduce students to rich nonfiction texts, but also build their background knowledge in social studies and history.

After reading their chosen biographies, students will create either tri-fold display boards or PowerPoint presentations to showcase what they’ve learned. These projects will allow them to summarize key facts, practice research and presentation skills, and share inspiring stories with their classmates. It’s a meaningful way to celebrate both reading and history and help students see how one person can make a difference in the world.
