Are you fascinated by new and unusual musical instruments? My 4th and 5th graders sure are! They learn to play soprano recorder, but after seeing all the different available sizes, they can't wait to get their hands on a sopranino, alto, tenor, or bass.
My students are from an urban area and many come from lower income homes.
The economy has been rough on all of us, but some of our school families have really been struggling. Our school is designated as "Title 1," meaning the majority of our students receive free or reduced lunch (and breakfast.) This being said, my students are also wonderful, normal children. They are curious and enjoy learning. They love music, and many of them are quite talented.
So many of my students get excited about playing the recorder, that we have begun an after-school performing group. These students work on ensemble pieces, many of which call for the entire recorder family to be played together. As I prepare them for future instrumental study, some students really enjoy the challenge of moving on to the larger and lower recorders - especially some of my bigger boys. We do have three tenor recorders, but the cost of buying a bass recorder has been prohibitive. Having a bass recorder would complete our ensemble and absolutely THRILL some of my more ambitious students.
Your donation will help a group of excited children play some fine music and take pride in their special performing group.
Hopefully, these experiences will then lead them on toward future study and appreciation of music.
