My Project

Through the community library, students will explore books centered on compassion, empathy, kindness, and emotional awareness to better understand how others think, feel, and experience the world. As students take ownership of selecting books for the Little Free Library, they will thoughtfully consider which stories might help someone feel understood, comforted, or included. These experiences help students build important social-emotional skills such as perspective-taking, emotional awareness, and respect for others.

Students will participate in the Little Free Library as a social-emotional learning service project focused on kindness and caring for the community.

They will learn that sharing books about compassion can help others feel less alone, strengthen emotional understanding, and support overall well-being. By maintaining the library, creating welcoming messages, and encouraging community members to use it, students will put empathy into action in meaningful ways.

Student growth will be seen through reflections, class discussions, and everyday interactions. Students will share how compassion-focused books can support others and explain how their efforts make a positive difference in the community. Teachers will look for students showing empathy, cooperation, and responsibility as they care for the library, along with increased pride in being part of a project that spreads kindness and connection.
