My Students

Is that state close to North Carolina? How long would it take to drive to that state? These are just a few of the questions I hear when I read letters from our Pen-pals from classrooms in other states. Last year we even participated in a leaf exchange with schools from all over the United States!

I teach 1st grade at an AMAZING public school in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina.

I love the enthusiasm my students have towards learning. It is their enthusiasm that encourages me to look for ways to enhance my teaching and find great, innovative materials to make learning fun. Their love of learning is what drives me to give them the best because that is what they deserve!

My Project

I want to answer those curious-minded questions about geography! I want my students to SEE where our Pen-pals live and SEE where those unique leaves traveled from and where our red oak leaves traveled after we put them in the mailbox. I found a beautiful full color rug of the United States and I think it will be the perfect hands-on way to help my students learn their map skills! With this rug of the USA, my students would be able to visually and physically learn essential map skills.

Children need to learn map skills at an early age and I know my students will have fun learning about the USA and where they live with this beautiful carpet. As an added bonus, this carpet will provide a comfortable place to sit and work in small groups as well as an area for creative play.
