Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We plan on using the Biorb aquarium as a vehicle to learn more about the relationship between matter, organisms and ecosystems. Science is a subject that is rich in vocabulary, which can be overwhelming at times for English Learners or even English speakers at that. Our school is a Title I school, which means nearly 100% of our student population lives a low socio-economic status - so much so, that all students receive free breakfast and lunch. However, what all students don't get are opportunities to experience or learn real meaningful lessons at home or outside of school.
I want to use the Biorb aquarium to get my students excited about living organisms and their ecosystems; not only will this increase their knowledge but also provide rich content vocabulary that would otherwise be non-engaging, i.e.
matter, organisms, ecosystem, energy, decomposers, environment, symbiotic relationship, etc.
I understand this may be an expensive donation but know you will be helping spark a flame inside my students, many of whom won't have an opportunity like this. It is my hope to inspire all of them to pursue, if not a career in science or teaching, at least an insatiable thirst for science knowledge. Thank you for your consideration.
