My Students

My students come from various backgrounds. Our school has students from all three parts of our city and from a wide array of demographics. Many of the children receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch and have faced more hardships than any child should at this age.

This is their first year at our school and one of the most important things is for them to feel comfortable and safe in our classroom environment.

They come in ready to learn and love working together in centers. Hands on projects and activities keep them engaged and wanting to learn more.

My Project

Classroom meetings and community building are very important in first grade! My students love working together in centers and reading books from the classroom library with peers and stuffed animal "reading buddies."

I'd love for my students to have a nice, coloring rug to sit on when participating in these activities.

Right now, they have to sit on the tiled floor which isn't only uncomfortable, but cold in the winter! With a large, colorful rug, each student will also have a specific spot to sit on during more structured learning. Our rug will be a nice specified spot for many of our learning needs!
