Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a highly impacted public junior high school in Utah. Our students come from all over the globe. Students at my school come from over 45 countries and speak over 30 languages. They love learning and enjoy school. Despite the challenges they face, they work hard and always try their best.
My scholars have the potential to change the world.
However, to do this, they need the tools and resources to help them achieve their own possibilities. Every day, they meet adversity and obstacles head-on and say, "We will not let you defeat us. We are AVID!" AVID, the program I teach, is a national program where students learn organization, note-taking, collaboration, and problem-solving to support them in their core classes and prepare them for success in high school, college, career, and beyond.
My Project
I have been working to build up my classroom's library so that my students have a variety of texts to enjoy, from nonfiction to fiction, graphic novels to full-length texts, and all on a myriad of topics. Recently, through the generosity of Donors Choose donors, I was able to get a lot of my requested books. Now, I need a place to put them for my students to access.
Having library carts will bring my classroom library to life.
They're durable, so they will last a long time, portable, so they can be moved around the room as the need arises, and they will put the newly acquired books right at my students' fingertips.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
