Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students need nonfiction text not only to learn to read, but read to learn! They actually prefer nonfiction text, and would love to have daily access to quality nonfiction books.
My 19 students are smart, creative and enthusiastic learners.
They really work hard at school. School is a safe, steady haven for many of my students. They love school and love learning! They motivate me and inspire me everyday! More than 90% of my students are on our free and reduced lunch and breakfast program. They come from families who are struggling, but they have shown me that they have the ability to rise above their circumstances and/or situations. They deserve as many opportunities as possible to better their education, themselves and ultimately their lives. Having access to non fiction text and become stronger in their academic vocabulary and knowledge, will only build their confidence and they will become stronger, greater and more confident learners.
My Project
Having nonfiction text to add to our classroom library would be such a blessing to my students! They love to learn and actually prefer reading nonfiction books. Research has shown that more nonfiction reading leads to more informational writing. This leads ultimately to higher reading achievement which will make them stronger and more knowledgeable people. Building their vocabulary and knowledge will empower them as readers, writers and creative individuals. I am so excited about the opportunity to enable my kids to achieve at higher levels! Again, they work so hard daily and prove to me and show me their desire to attain a great education and better themselves.
I want my students to continue to develop their love for reading!
At this point in their education, many are learning to read and reading to learn, and what better resources to have on hand than nonfiction text. Thanks for helping me make a difference in my students lives in a tangible way. I do LOVE teaching and LOVE my students! Again, they deserve as many opportunities as possible to continue learning in the best and most effective ways possible!
