We are getting ready to start a brand new school year and cannot wait to dive into using all the resources purchased through this project. I now have a manipulative bin for every student to use as they need for their learning, whether it is to further enrich their learning or to provide additional support. Giving students options to show their understanding is an effective way to give students some autonomy in their learning journey. \r\n\r\nWhen I told my students about how the community came together to help support our classroom, it was a great opportunity to show them the positive things that happen in our communities. Public schools have been heavily scrutinized recently and we serve students from all sorts of cultures and backgrounds. So it was a teachable moment that the majority of the community does support them and wants the best for their futures. It gave them HOPE! So thank you again, from the bottom of our hearts! Students love to use dry erase markers to practice their math. Let's face it, math involves lots of mistakes and correcting them, so dry erase markers make that easier for students and it is much more engaging. Students are also already using the dry erase sheet protectors. This allows us to practice a lot of math with visuals that students need while learning, while at the same time not wasting so much paper. I also now have plenty of ways to organize and file my lessons instead of living out of a box, so that has been a life changer already. When I first told my classes that the community helped donate all these great items, they were so excited. Not just for themselves to get to use many of the items, but for me too. They know how organized I am, so they were happy to see that I have a way to reorganize and find what I need much faster. While the school year is coming to a close, these materials will now be used by my next group of kiddos. Next year I will incorporate the versatiles boards as an extended activity for students who finish their work early or who just need extra practice on specific skills. These versatiles make it seem more like a puzzle than math work, so now more students will be able to access these types of activities. I am also looking forward to introducing the stories for learning their times tables in hopes that it will make learning them more engaging, rather than just another assignment. \r\n\r\nI am so grateful for your generosity. Without your help, I still would have purchased these items with my own funds.
