My students are real. They are special because they aren't afraid to show me who they are or tell me things bluntly. Each year, I make connections with students who are open to learning about new ideas, and they love teaching ME about new ideas.
My Project
Students gravitate towards classrooms that are inviting. This can mean so many different things, but I've noticed that what is inviting to my students is both the aesthetics of the classroom AND the material that is available for them to read.
Please help me hook my young readers.
Graphic novels and books about people that look and sound like my students are what appeals most to them. I find when my students can see themselves in between the covers of the books on my shelves, they are intrigued enough to open the book. They do this, despite having bad feelings associated with reading a book because of prior experiences that did not keep them "hooked."
