My Students

My students are in a Pre-K counts classroom located in a Magnet school in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. They range in age from three to five years old. They come from a wide variety of family and ethnic backgrounds and even neighborhoods. Many of them come from households with a low family income.

My students are very active, and learn through their play by exploring their environment.

We have created a classroom space that is student centered and encourages them to learn independently. My students are young and are learning about the world around them.

My Project

Every day I have the pleasure of seeing 20, bright eyed children when I walk into my classroom. My students have varying needs and abilities that sometimes make it difficult for them to concentrate or sit still.

Managing sensory input is a crucial skill for my students to learn.

My students will use the weighted vests and plush daily to help them sit when needed and focus their attention. The stress balls will release tension and frustration that they may feel throughout the day. The weighted blanket will help my students calm their body enough to rest and be successful for the afternoon portion of their day.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
