This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you know how to video chat? We wish we did!!! These 3rd grade students would like to communicate with their Pen Pals in another country. The other class in South Africa have web cams; why can't we? Because our computer is so old, it doesn't support a video chat. So we need a tablet to talk to them.

My 3rd grade students are from a low income area, 2 out of 32 have Internet services at home, and 5 of them walk to the local library to use the computer on the weekend.

These 32 students are so excited to have Pen Pals from another country. They ask daily "did we get mail from our friends yet?" The students in South Africa continue to ask if we have the capability for web cams, so they can talk face to face, instead of just sending pictures. We don't want to respond with the same answer. Sorry we don't have the technology here to talk face to face, "yet".

My Project

My class would be so grateful to receive a tablet. I believe my students would benefit from this technology because they have gone without for so long, being in LAUSD isn't easy anymore, we would like the chance to have something no other class has. We would love to be able to share the stories with our friends on the other side on the world that we are not always able to write about.

This class is so deserving, they work so hard, and go out of their way to share stories with their international pen pals.

At first they were sending letters, then they wanted to share more so we decided to send pictures. Now they feel so close to them that they want to share everything. I feel that if we had a way to communicate face to face they could show them via camera.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
