This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

It's a good day to help a tiny human communicate! Every child in my class has either a significant speech delay or is non-verbal! Without verbal language, they need access to varieties of other tools to communication their needs. Not being able to express needs and desires results in frustration, alienation, and can cause negative behaviors. Please help us supply our classroom with everything we'd need to be able to make student-driven personalized communication boards. Real life, color images are the best representation for a choice board. We need a color printer to send those images of a child playing with Legos right away! A laminator to make sure it's reusable! And Velcro to put it on the child's personalized board. We also have a couple of basic communication devices on our list for students who would prefer more interactive choices. Once students show consistent interest in AAC devices, they build their language and become more eligible for more thorough devices. Every child deserves a voice!
