Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a kindergarten teacher at P.S. 246 in the Bronx. I am writing today to kindly request help in providing a literacy area in my classroom. We do have a small collection of books, but nothing else. I have been borrowing books from the New York Public Libraries, as well as taking the children there to borrow books themselves. While looking through a children's literacy magazine, I came across items such as hand puppets to go along with some of our favorite stories. They were age-appropriate, colorful, and seem like the perfect motivator to get my students to begin reading more independently and fluently. I have 20 five and six year old students who will be enjoying these materials on a daily basis, and many more students who may be able to use them as well in the years to come. I thank you for your consideration and appreciate any help you may be able to provide.
