My Students

I teach K-8 art in a Title I school in North Carolina. My students live in a rural part of the county where there are limited options for them to experience the cultural arts and experiment creatively outside of school. On a typical day, I teach art to 6 different grade levels between kindergarten and 8th grade. I have middle school students every day for 45 minutes. I teach my elementary (K-5) classes once a week for an hour.

My students are all so creative and love experimenting with all types of mediums.

They love when they have time to create something of their own that reflects their own skills, ideas, and emotions.

My Project

We love getting messy in art class, which includes a lot of painting! My students of all ages from Kindergarten to 8th grade love to paint. When teaching so many students on a weekly basis, we go through plenty of it! To continue my art program to the fullest this year, my students need more quality paint for their artwork.

We will be using these tempera paints for art projects based on art history, famous artists, cultural projects, and independent work.

In my class, we learn about art throughout history and famous artists. We create art inspired by these artists like Andy Warhol, Vincent van Gogh, Chuck Close, Dean Russo, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Gustav Klimt, and so many more. We also learn about art from different cultures like Mexican, African American, Chinese, and Japanese. We will also use these tempera paints for independent projects. I love being able to let my students experiment and create on their own. Experimentation is part of the art-making process. These tempera paints will be used in our painting center where students get to paint with their own ideas in mind.

These tempera paints are vital to my curriculum. When teaching so many grade levels, we need quality paint that is washable and not too expensive. I am asking for gallon jugs of the colors we use the most of. These materials will give my students an authentic artistic experience. It's not art class without plenty of painting after all!
