Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We love Fudge!!! This is what I hear from my students everyday. It has been difficult to get my students excited about reading, but they finally are. Now the challenge is getting them the books that they need.

Our school is located in an urban setting, with a low socioeconomic background.

Most students rely on the books our school library has. However the selection of books has been significantly impacted due to budget cuts. We are a public school and as such we do not have much in the way of disposable funds. The majority of my students are English Language Learners. They enjoy a good laugh and books that they can relate to.

My Project

Reading everyday can significantly impact student learning, comprehension, and fluency. This book will be used not only to inspire students to read but also to inspire them to think. I will be using the book to teach 4th grade concepts. We will compare and contrast characters, find cause and effect relationships, make inferences, look for metaphors, similes, idioms and much, much more. We will also be using the book as part of our literacy circles. Using This book will make it easier for students to connect to the story as most of my students have a younger sibling or are that younger sibling.

My students Love Fudge books.

Although I teach upper grade, many students are not at the appropriate reading level. This book is one of the few chapter books that is at their level and they enjoy. In addition the audio CD will help students who are struggling readers build their fluency. I believe that by exposing students to books that are interesting and appealing to them we will create life long readers.
