My Project

I am a reading teacher for grades Kindergarten-5th grade in a Title I school in Raleigh, NC. My students are a diverse group who speak a variety of languages, come from many different places, engage in various extracurricular activities, and embrace countless new experiences. What they have in common is a desire to learn. Our classroom is in a mobile unit outside of the school building. We don't have easy access to the large trash and recycling bins in our school.

Recycling will create environmental awareness and a sense of responsibility in my students

We currently use an open top plastic bin for students to place plastic containers, paper, cans and other recyclable items. The bin can get messy and smelly if not emptied daily. The recycling bin will allow for a cleaner and more convenient recycling process. The books will build awareness for how my students can contribute to creating a healthier planet. My goals are for my students to be aware of how recycling can help the environment so they feel a personal responsibility for keeping their space clean.
