Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

As a child, reading was my favorite subject, and I've been able to install that same love and passion for all types of genres with my students. They love reading novels and being able to discuss them with partners, groups, and with their families, and discover connections between themselves and the characters.

As a dual language classroom, it's amazing to see the different cultures, interests, and experiences that are brought into a discussion through novel reading.

I enjoy it. My students love it, and my parents are thrilled that their children are learning and growing.

My Project

As students read the book, they will discover different characters, their traits and how those traits affect relationships. They will discover the uniqueness of themselves and others and how those qualities make the world a beautiful place.

As they discover different points of view, they learn to value differences and how to communicate, build relationships and communities, and develop themselves because of the variety of traits, experiences, and cultures that surround them.

The books will provide my students with a novel that can be used across the many subjects and discover how they, too, like Auggie, are wonders of the world!
