Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a dynamic, progressive school in Yuma County, Arizona. It is committed to providing the highest quality education to every student.Each student receives a free breakfast and a free lunch as it is a low income school.
My self-contained classroom warms my heart.
My students range from autistic, deaf and down syndrome to mild intellectual disabilities. I have an empty classroom that I would love to convert to a sensory classroom. I want a place that my students can go to and relax on a bean bag chair, or have a swing to swing on. My dream is to provide a sensory room for them that meets their needs and helps them to feel calm.
My Project
It is my dream to provide a sensory classroom for my students. Right now all I have is an empty classroom with tables and chairs. I want a place for them to retreat to, to help them to stimulate their senses with a new rocker and ball pit. Time spent in a sensory classroom has been proven to increase concentration, focus attention, improve alertness, and to improve mobilization, creativity, social relations and communications, and general awareness of the surrounding world.
Providing a sensory environment for my students can open up a whole new world for them.
Providing a stimulating environment will:
Increase concentration and focus attention, improve coordination and motor development, promote cognitive development by increased brain function, lead students to explore their environment, provide a feeling of safety and security, and be an unrestrained atmosphere where participants feel able to enjoy themselves.
It will improve their creativity, promote social interactions, promote mental and physical relaxation- their stress levels will drop dramatically!
