With the air-dry clay you provided, my 7th and 8th grade STEM students have been actively designing and building scaled 3D prototypes connected to real-world engineering challenges.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials were first introduced, the excitement was immediate. Students who are typically hesitant to participate were eager to get started. There were smiles, curiosity, and a lot of \"Can we start right now?\" moments. The clay gave students a new way to express their ideas, especially for those who struggle with traditional paper-and-pencil tasks. It created an inclusive environment where every student could succeed and feel proud of their work.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue refining their models and begin presenting their designs, explaining both the creative and technical decisions behind their work. They will also apply what they've learned to future projects, including engineering challenges and makerspace builds that require planning, prototyping, and iteration. This experience is helping build confidence, collaboration skills, and a deeper understanding of how STEM concepts apply in the real world.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us shape not just projects, but future innovators.","fullyFundedDate":1758636524386,"projectUrl":"project/sculpting-future-innovators-air-dry-cla/9572294/","projectTitle":"Sculpting Future Innovators: Air-Dry Clay for STEM Leaders","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Colton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1933693_orig.jpg?crop=800,800,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1569869834386","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-colton"},{"teacherId":9163474,"projectId":9907121,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the generous donation! Students felt an endothermic reaction when baking soda and vinegar were mixed. When the two chemicals were mixed, a balloon was filled up with the gas carbon dioxide. Students were very impressed that the balloon that filled up was cool to the touch since most assume chemical reactions end in explosions. \r\nWe were also able to make elephant toothpaste, which creates an exothermic reaction. The supplies went to both 7th and 8th grade, boys and girls soccer. They are helping our defensive lines, midfield players, and strikers all practice different skills and techniques and have even allowed our goalies to get some extra practice in different ways and areas. Without your donation we would be using older cheaper balls that were worn-out and would automatically curve when kicking them, we would still be using student backpacks as cones, and we would be forced to rely on the same drills that we had been using for years because we did not have the supplies to run some more advanced drills.
