My Project

Even though my students are 4 years old, they are some of the most creative people you will ever meet. They love to design and create items that are personal to them and reflect who they are. Clothing is such an important part of our culture and life. Each year we spend 6 weeks studying clothing and work to answer the questions: What are the features of clothes? How do we care for clothes? How is cloth made? What special clothes do people wear for work or special occasions? At the end of this unit of study, we have a fashion show where students can show off clothes and accessories they have designed.

These materials will allow for students to design their own clothes and accessories for our end-of-study fashion show.

The magic and magnetic wooden dress-up dolls will give students an opportunity to play around with clothing and create ideas for their own clothes. The sewing kit will allow for students to practice their sewing skills and see how clothing is sewn together. The t-shirts and tie-dye kits will be used for designing tie-dye shirts. The foam stickers will be used for students to design their visor for the event. The Snap Pop Beads will be used for students to design their own jewelry to coordinate with the shirt and hat they design. Once students have had an opportunity to design their shirts, visors, and accessories, families will be invited to see our fashion show which will highlight all of the learning that has happened during our unit of study on clothing.
