Walk the Great Wall

Help me give my students pedometers to get them moving. We will be doing a project "Walk the Great Wall" as we study Ancient China; as well as monthly competitions, to get students up and moving.

My Project

I plan to use the pedometers in my classroom. Each day students will wear their pedometers and track their steps. We will be graphing our progress and calculating miles walked each month in math. As a class, we will be trying to walk 2,500 miles to "walk across the Great Wall." We will be studying Ancient China in social studies and learning about the Great Wall. I have a bulletin board set up with graphics on the great wall and we have milestones we will be trying to reach and learn about different cities and important parts of the wall. Each day/month we will be setting step goals and fun competitions throughout the Spring months. I will reuse these pedometers each year for future classes to enjoy the competitions and goals. I'm hoping this will get my middle schoolers up and moving throughout the day with added exercise. I will be competing with them; which always makes it fun class vs. teacher.
