My Students

My students come from a variety of backgrounds and bring the richness of their diversity into the classroom. They range in age from 14 to 18 and have never before taken a Journalism or broadcasting class. They are learning about the 1st Amendment and what it means to be news literate and why that is important to a democracy. Despite their initial impression, my students have found the class to be interesting and engaging and are currently fighting to extend the program -- and that is where we need your help.

My Project

My students love interviewing, but cannot be heard. Through your donation, we can improve the sound quality of our interviews and our students can broadcast to an audience that can receive their message loud and clear.

With these lavalier microphones, my students will be able to confidently conduct interviews knowing that no matter how soft spoken their candidate, his or her voice will carry.

A recent wonderful example was our coverage of a local school district choosing to remove To Kill a Mockingbird from its required reading. Our students asked intelligent questions that were thought provoking with the added ability of evoking critical discussion on the topic; however, the sound quality was so poor most of the scene had to be cut. Please help ensure such tragedies do not continue.
