I currently teach first grade virtually for our school district in upstate New York. Our virtual school was created in August for the 2020-2021 school year. We have over 400 students who have decided to learn from home this year.
My students come from diverse backgrounds, with a large percentage of economically disadvantaged students.
Many of the students at our school qualify for free and reduced lunch, health and mental health services through community partnerships and our school's weekly backpack program which includes food for students and their families. A percentage of our students and families also struggle to maintain housing and are considered homeless within our district.
My students are eager, young, innovative, and compassionate learners who work hard on a daily basis. Our students are both sympathetic and empathetic to classmates creating a safe and loving learning environment.
My Project
My virtual school students have been working online all year long and are so excited for the weather to warm up. In Upstate New York, springtime weather means recess outdoors! My fabulous firsties would love some outdoor materials to use while playing and learning. Your donation of chalk, bubbles, and bouncy balls to move and groove in the sunshine! My students will also be able to use the chalk for our weekly word work to review phonics and spelling words.
These materials will be used at home for both learning and staying active.
