My Students

My animation and art design classes use powerful tech tools such as Photoshop to visualize the world on a 2-D design. However, just like a drawing on paper, art doesn’t feel real unless you can reach out and touch it. I want students to transcend 2-D boundaries and use VR to go from 2-D to 3-D.

My college-bound, technologically savvy students are incredibly intelligent, talented, and motivated learners that have not had opportunities to experience animation and art design in a way where they can truly connect with emerging technologies and the design world with the work they are creating.

My students have the passion and ambition to explore new technologies and go beyond a 2-D image. My school's art department is underfunded of all the departments at our school - the fact that I am barely able to collect all of the necessary supplies to keep art classes afloat means that I am not able to easily make everyone's experience come alive through the use of cutting-edge technology.

My Project

Google Cardboard is one of the most versatile virtual reality headsets available. It is easy to use and assembles in less than 30 seconds, making it the perfect accessory to use in class as it allows students to better engage art without wasting time. It works with smartphones the students use to create content for the new virtual reality market. Using virtual reality, I can send my students on a journey of design-thinking and career-centered learning. The requested Google Cardboard will allow my students to better interact with the art they have created and admire other art in museums and around the world.

Virtual reality (VR) uses visual, auditory, and sometimes other sensory inputs—such as tactile or haptic feedback—to create an immersive, computer-generated environment.

These virtual environments can be fictitious,such as the fantasy world of a video game, or digital replicas of real locations, such as a museum or historical site. The goal of VR is to create a user experience of being in that virtual world. This technology will allow my students to interact with art in a more realistic way.
