Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every student is a unique and diverse talented individual that brings their knowledge and experiences into the classroom. Every student learns and develops in different ways; that is what makes them all so different. Our elementary school serves 595 students from PK-5. Two out of three students speak a language other than English as their first language, and most students have limited English proficiency and require specially designed content instruction. More than half of the population at our school is low income. I am working with 20, K1 students who are very diverse in cultural background and language and all have very different needs. For many of them, this is their first time in school and a new experience.
My Project
This has been a hard year for everyone but especially students learning from home. Many students in my school do not have the materials at home that they need to be able to complete school assignments. K1 students learn through manipulating materials and play. The materials I am requesting are so that I can make bins for my students to have at home. Most of the materials I am requesting are art materials and workbooks. Art materials can be used as manipulatives for math as well as for creating many different projects. Workbooks will help my students with their writing skills.
