Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My beautiful second graders live in a diverse community and are beginning to understand the real world around them. They live in a high-poverty, high-traffic neighborhood, with the classroom being their own little world. For this reason, I try to create an engaging environment where they receive regular doses of knowledge and encouragement.

The students would be so excited to experience the ultimate science experiment - making ice cream!

This process requires easy access to ice, salt, sugar, vanilla, plastic bags, and other materials. This experience would be a memorable and engaging hands-on activity for students. Plus, students would learn about solids and liquids, and see how salt melts ice melt faster.

In addition, the freezer would be helpful to store ice packs for minor boo-boos. When a student has a minor headache or injury, ice packs can be placed into a bag, and help relieve the pain. Students can simply stay and learn in the classroom, instead of seeing the health clerk (with possible exposure to other germs).
