Using Literary Theory to Explore Children's Literature

My Project

What better way to teach students how to approach literature than if you can pull from some of their personal experiences as children reading? Arming students with different literary theories and perspectives and setting them free to explore children's literature, gives them a chance to understand a multitude of dynamics. Students can learn more about what children's stories actually reveal, while also discovering how their relationship with books from their youth, can change as they grow and mature. Giving students a variety of older and newer texts with varying themes, provides multiple opportunities and layers of potential exploration and understanding. My students love the opportunity to dig a little deeper into literature this way and the engagement level is off the charts.
