Unlocking Learning With BreakoutEdu

My Project

Escape rooms have continued to be popular in entertainment, immersing participants in staged environments that require them to use critical thinking and problem solving to "escape." BreakoutEdu kits allow educators to bring the same concept into the classroom without having to completely stage the classroom and redo its decor. Because Breakout game kits come with the general materials (i.e.boxes, locks, hasps, UV pen) to facilitate a game, they can be adapted and aligned to any content area. The possibilities are endless! When presented with the challenge of unlocking boxes, solving riddles, and cracking codes, students automatically begin to think like detectives, using problem-solving and critical thinking to achieve the learning objective. And, they have fun!

BreakoutEDU games are engaging and require students to work collaboratively, bringing both higher order thinking and "soft skills" like teamwork and communication into use.

I envision us using these kits in our collaborations with classroom teachers, as we seek to encourage the use of information literacy skills and inquiry throughout our curriculum. I also envision using them to facilitate professional development with our faculty, fostering team building and problem solving. But, mostly, I envision the smiling faces of our learners as they continue to achieve and find fulfillment through learning.
