Uncovering the Masterpiece

Help me give my students glaze that mimics stone for their subtractive clay sculptures.

My Project

Students will learn subtractive techniques using clay and carving tools. Students will mimic Michelangelo's process of subtraction by starting with a block of clay. Michelangelo once said "Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it." Students will be chipping away at their blocks until they uncover its true essence. Students will learn a new medium in sculpture class (clay), positive/negative space, composition, texture, and carving. The glazes listed are specifically for carving and mimic "stone-like" textures and colors.
