My Students

I am currently in my tenth year of teaching and I am constantly amazed by what my students are able to achieve. I teach in an urban school district where the majority of our students come from low-income families. My school has almost eight hundred students and we constantly have new students joining us. Our students face many challenges at home and in the classroom, but at my school the teachers go above and beyond to help their students succeed.

In the music room, all of my students are able to flourish.

My kids sing, dance, play and create on a daily basis. Students of all levels find success in music. If you walk into my classroom, you will see a room filled with engaged students working collaboratively and supporting each other.

My Project

My students are always excited when we get to play instruments in the classroom. And believe me, I try to use them as often as I can! Ukuleles are particularly exciting because they remind the students of guitars. The benefit of using ukuleles is the size--chords on the ukulele are much more user friendly for the elementary student.

Students will learn how to accompany themselves, sing and play, while using the ukulele.

We will learn a variety of repertoire included previously learned folk songs, pop tunes, and classic songs.

One of my favorite things about the music classroom is the focus on the group--working together towards a common goal. Social Emotional Learning is really important in my school and I think that really carries into my classroom. As musicians we collaborate on projects and we each need to contribute to make a beautiful sound.
