Uke Can Make a Difference!

Help me give my students all the opportunity to play and learn the ukulele. This class set of 30 will allow all to participate and enjoy!

My Students

The school is smaller than others in our area, so it is easy to get to know everyone and feel as though you are part of a family. Our students come from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. Some families are self-sufficient, while others benefit from a free/reduced lunch and our backpack food program. Regardless of their backgrounds, our students are passionate about learning, and are always willing to explore new experiences.

Children at our school are part of a very special community.

Over the past three years, the population of English Speakers of Other Languages, has tripled. Our school has a wide range of learners, from students with disabilities to students who are identified as gifted. Therefore, it is imperative that our instructors develop lessons that are meaningful to vastly different learners. Learning to play the ukulele will give all students the opportunity to learn an instrument that they may otherwise never be exposed to.

My Project

One of the best reasons to expose children to ukuleles is because playing the ukulele is fun! Since they are small and easy to learn, kids get excited as they quickly learn to play fun songs and melodies. They love the instrument's Hawaiian charm. Having 30 ukuleles will give an entire class of students the opportunity to learn to play the instrument together. For higher level students, they can work in a small group on practicing advanced music, or composing their own!

Music helps the body and the mind work together.

Exposing children to music during early development helps them learn the sounds and meanings of words. Dancing to music helps build motor skills while allowing students to practice self-expression. Most importantly, learning an instrument increases the development of long term memory.
