My Project

When students engage with UFLI  Foundations—an explicit, systematic phonics curriculum developed by the University of Florida Literacy Institute—kindergarten classrooms see remarkable gains. In a recent pilot classroom, students using UFLI for a year grew at a significantly faster rate than peers in other classrooms, achieving the equivalent of eight extra months of reading instruction in just one school year. UFLI Foundations aligns closely with the “science of reading,” equipping young learners with the crucial decoding foundation they need to access comprehension and build lifelong literacy.

Magnetic phonics kits offer a hands-on, multi-sensory bridge between UFLI’s explicit instruction and applied practice.

Research has long shown that using manipulatives such as letter tiles to help children connect phonemes (sounds) with their written letters improves decoding, spelling, and fluency—particularly in kindergarten and early elementary grades.

Your support will help me deliver dramatic results, accelerating reading growth and setting students on a strong literacy trajectory. These magnetic phonics kits transform abstract letter–sound relationships into physical, playful exploration—deepening learning and building student confidence. These resources help to level the playing field. With explicit instruction paired with hands-on materials, all students—including those from diverse backgrounds or early learners—gain access to tools that support decoding and fluency.
