My Students

Little art students' hands have trouble sharpening "regular" colored pencils. The colored pencil leads break and become stuck in the pencil sharpeners.

My students attend an urban Title I school where many of the students have disabilities.

They are great children but can become frustrated easily. The students become frustrated when they are trying to sharpen their colored pencils and they keep breaking. This leads to their art teacher (me) running around the room like a chicken with its head cut off to try and resharpen all the colored pencils they are struggling with.

My Project

Learning how to work with colored pencils is an important aspect of the art curriculum. Unfortunately, with our current colored pencils situation, the colored pencils are causing more frustration than joy. By donating the twistable colored pencils all students can use them and feel successful. Students are looking forward to creating a realistic self-portrait with colored pencils and the twistable colored pencils would work wonderfully for this art project.

Students will feel successful using colored pencils and help build their self-confidence in art class. The twistable colored pencils will also help save the sanity of their beloved art teacher - no more running around the room like a chicken with its head cut off!
