Watching the gentle jellyfish move has become a favorite calming activity and has helped students regulate. Many students have started drawing jellyfish as the way to calm and focus. \r\n\r\nStudents are also using their fidgets and supplies every day. Because everything is sorted into bins and clearly visible on the shelves, students can easily access the materials they need independently.\r\n\r\nOur 4th graders have been especially fascinated by the brain model. We have been using it while learning about different parts of the brain and what each part is responsible for. Students love being able to open the model and look inside, making their learning much more hands on and engaging. \r\n\r\nThe Zen garden has also been a favorite. Bringing some of the outdoor skills indoors. Taking time to take care of something even just for a moment is a valuable skill. One student has loved it so much that she has already added one to her holiday wish list.\r\n\r\nEvery student who has walked into the counseling office has commented how beautiful and lovely the space is. The guitar has been a great resource for our music classes, and gets used in almost every class I teach. It is great to not have to worry about bringing my own instrument from home each day, and to have something here at the school permanently. The sound is something the kids enjoy, and a few have had the opportunity to try playing it (though its a little big for some). \r\n Many students noticed the new guitar right away at the beginning of the year, though it is similar to my personal instrument, they noticed many the subtle differences. We were able to have a few short discussions about the anatomy of instruments, and how the two are both similar and yet different at the same time.
