Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Teachers who love teaching, teach children who love learning." As I enter my 20th year of teaching, I continue to follow this mantra in my classroom. I teach 28 wonderful students who come from poverty. My students are from varying ethnic backgrounds. Most of them come from homes that are struggling financially.
My students are extremely motivated, and they are genuinely respectful of each other.
They are lovers of learning, and I am truly grateful to be their teacher this year. They come to school with smiles on their faces, and they are eager to learn. We need new books to use in our literacy centers.
My Project
My first-grade students are aspiring readers. They love having books read to them. It is my favorite time of the day. I need fun and engaging books to read about the holidays during story time. Twas the Night before books by Natasha Wing are fun, engaging books about different holidays and special events. The students will enjoy reading realistic fiction books about the holidays. My hope in teaching the children about the different holidays is to show my students that people can have different backgrounds but still have similar beliefs.
I would like to teach my first grade students about being thankful, caring for others, and celebrating with family.
Teaching children about the holidays will open their eyes to the various ways people celebrate in the world.
