Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of my students are first-generation, college-bound, high school freshman. They are willing to put in the tedious work over four years to graduate with a high school diploma and an Associates Degree. Part of being able to do this is being on a college reading level by the time they are sophmores, and many of them have gaps to fill. Despite them being behind, they are willing and able to put in the work; they have that look of determination and the hunger to get it done!
They are ready to rise to the challenge!
My Project
Mondays are college spirit shirt days and Fridays are school spirit shirt days. We'd like to get more kids to participate in these days by helping them design and produce their own spirit shirts! Having some more vinyl will help us do that!
Allowing students to show their creativity on campus and in classrooms is extremely important to us!
I would like to purchase several rolls/sheets of different colored vinyl, Teflon sheets, and weeding tools for students to create whatever kind of t-shirt they want. In addition, having these materials will allow them to create shirts for special activities too, such as ones for senior signing day, volunteer events, and even in the classroom to demonstrate learning. Who wouldn't want a shirt with their version of an animal cell diagram or a persuasive cartoon to show they have mastered a concept?
Last year was tough with Hurricane Harvey and a lot of change, so we're doing everything we can to make our school have the best learning environment possible!
