Turning the Page: Restoring the Love of Reading

Help me give my students the high-quality, engaging literature they need to bridge the literacy gap and rediscover the joy of a great story.

My Project

Recent data from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), often referred to as "The Nation’s Report Card," has highlighted a sobering reality: reading scores for many students have reached their lowest levels in decades. Across the country, a significant percentage of high school students are performing below their expected proficiency levels, struggling with comprehension and critical analysis.

Many of my students have lost their "reading stamina" or feel intimidated by complex texts because they haven't yet found a book that speaks to them.

Our Vision: Building Back Better

To combat these trends, our school is moving back to the basics by revitalizing our classic reading programs. We believe that the best way to improve literacy is not through more standardized testing, but by surrounding students with a diverse, rich, and exciting library that makes them want to pick up a book.

We are requesting a curated collection of titles that range from:

Contemporary Young Adult Fiction: To provide "mirrors" where students see their own lives reflected.

High-Interest Non-Fiction: To build confidence and reading stamina for reluctant readers.

Classic Literature: To challenge their thinking and prepare them for college-level inquiry.

The Impact of Your Donation

By donating to this project, you aren't just buying paper and ink; you are providing the tools for a student to escape into another world, learn empathy for others, and sharpen the literacy skills they need for a successful future.

Our goal is simple: we want to return the love of reading to our hallways. With your support, we can ensure that our students aren't just a statistic in a report, but are instead lifelong readers and thinkers.

Thank you for investing in our classroom and our future!
