This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Help my students experience the magic of reading Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief for the very first time.

As a fourth-grade teacher, I strive to create moments where reading becomes more than just an assignment—it becomes an adventure.

This year, I want to give my students the unforgettable experience of diving into the world of Percy Jackson, Greek mythology, and exciting quests that will spark their imagination and strengthen their love for reading.

For many of my students, this will be one of the first chapter books that truly pulls them in and keeps them engaged from beginning to end. Percy’s journey is filled with action, humor, and heart, making it the perfect story to hook even my most reluctant readers. As Percy discovers his identity and navigates challenges, my students will see reflections of their own struggles, growth, and bravery.

In our classroom, we will not just read this novel—we will experience it together. Students will engage in meaningful discussions, make predictions, explore mythology, and build important reading comprehension skills while connecting deeply with the characters and story.

Many of my students do not have access to high-interest books at home. Having classroom copies of this novel will ensure that every student has the opportunity to fully participate in this shared reading experience and feel included in our classroom community.
