Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I absolutely love the energy and personality my sixth-grade students bring into the classroom every day. They are curious, funny, and imaginative, and many of them enjoy stories that feel like adventures. When students find a book they truly connect with, their confidence as readers grows, and they become more willing to participate in discussions, share ideas, and think deeply about what they read.

Having a class set of Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan will allow my students to experience a novel together as a classroom community.

This high-interest story blends action, humor, and Greek mythology to capture the attention of middle school readers, especially those who may normally struggle to stay engaged in reading.

With these books, students will be able to follow along, annotate the text, participate in guided reading discussions, and complete an end-of-year project that encourages creativity and critical thinking. Reading the same novel together also helps build stronger comprehension skills, vocabulary, and collaboration as students share ideas and perspectives with their classmates.

This class set will give every student equal access to an exciting story and help turn reading into an experience they can enjoy together. My goal is for students to walk away not only as stronger readers but also with a greater love for books and storytelling.
