My Students
My first grade classroom is located in a small area in Charleston, West Virginia. Our school is a well known school throughout the Charleston area. The staff and students are always trying new things and are very active in the community. I have a class of wonderful, energetic, eager, and loving first grade students. Many of my children come from low-income families. However, despite the struggles they may see at home they come to school every morning with the biggest smile on their face. My goal as a teacher is to make every single one of my students feel loved, encouraged, and confident.
My Project
My frist grade students are challenged everyday when they come to school. From the moment the bell rings they are given an unlimited amount of opportunities to grow in all subject areas. In first grade, reading is the biggest skill taught. My students need daily comprehension books that make them think outside the box, increase their retelling skills, and give them the extra practice they need to succeed in first grade.
My students deserve a relaxing, inviting, and encouraging reading corner that will enhance comprehension and fluency skills.
With the materials for this reading corner the children will be able to relax with bean bag chairs, pillows, and yoga mats. These materials will provide each child the opportunity to work their hardest while feeling comfortable and eager to master reading skills.
In my first grade classroom my students strive on meeting personal and class goals. We have been working hard on becoming leaders and always making the best choices for the class. With the reading corner and daily comprehension materials my students will be able to easily collaborate with one another to help each other achieve academic success in all subject areas.
