Help me give my students an experience to remember. This one day trip will enable the students to visit the State House for 1/2 the day and the Old Barracks Museum for the other half.
Variety and diversity are two very common words used to describe my district. This year I have 42 amazing general education and special education students eager to learn! Our school is a Title 1 school; many students come from low-income families. English is the second language of many of my students and often they are the only English speakers in their household. My classroom is considered an LRE (Least Restrictive Environment)room with both special education students and general education students working side by side.
Our students have very little background knowledge on the state they live in and many of them have not been out of their home town of North Plainfield.
Our fourth grade curriculum for Social Studies begins with the study of the American Revolution especially in New Jersey, we then focus on government and how bills become laws, and we conclude with a focus on New Jersey.
Notwithstanding, their differences and/or challenges, my students continue to amaze me. They deserve the best that education can offer so that they can meet their highest learning potential.
The project I am seeking funding for will give my students one day of fun, knowledge, and an ability to actually see our studies come alive. The day includes a visit to the New Jersey State House, as well as The Old Barracks Museum.
Making History Come Alive always helps students to understand the key elements to our studies.
This year we will learn about government and creating laws. What a better place to fully understand them, than visiting the state house and watching a bill become a law. We will also study the American Revolution, so spending the rest of our day at the Old Barracks is Perfect!
