My Students

I teach 6th grade English and Social Studies. The students in my classroom are extremely diverse in terms of learning needs, emotional needs, and socioeconomic background. My students love to use technology, read, and collaborate with each other.

I firmly believe that my students' learning opportunities should not be limited by their zip code.

They deserve to learn through hands-on activities, engaging curriculum, and opportunities for creative expression and I strive to provide these experiences for them.

In addition to my teaching duties, I coach my school's Speech and Debate Team and sponsor my school's Newspaper Club. These expanded learning opportunities give students the chance to develop important skills in communication, teamwork, literacy, writing, and creative expression. Supporting these students during out-of-school time is one of the highlights of my teaching career!

My Project

This project is focused on providing the materials that my students need to stay organized during this year's Speech and Debate tournaments. One of the biggest struggles when switching between in-person and virtual tournaments is making sure that students have all of their evidence, speeches, and scripts handy. This project will make sure that students are organized instead of just stuffing papers in their backpacks and will provide them with a central binder to keep all of their Speech & Debate materials.

Participation in Speech and Debate helps students build literacy, communication, and executive functioning skills.

The items in this project will be used to help students build a tool-kit that will help them stay organized during the debate season. Students will use binders, paper, dividers, and page protectors to keep their scripts and evidence organized and improve executive functioning skills. Additionally, students will use the highlighters to close-read and annotate their cases and evidence, which will improve reading comprehension and help students reach their literacy goals.

By donating to this project, you will help my students develop the literacy and organizational skills needed to excel in Speech & Debate. We will use these items throughout the year to make sure students excel regardless of whether they are competing in-person or virtually!
