Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

At this school the students are predominately of Brazilian and Portuguese descent, but the rest of the population is a cultural mixture of African, Latino and South American. Many of our students have only been in America for a short amount of time, so if you can imagine there are many language barriers that make communication difficult at times.

The Performing Arts staff has done its best to provide multi-faceted instruction that render performance opportunities that are inclusive of lecture demonstrations and technical theater where the students do all the hands on work and the instructors are there to supervise.

My Project

Putting on a live theatrical performance with high school students is a huge endeavor, but when you have no way to communicate between sound, backstage, and front of house, it makes it ten times more difficult. This past years performance proved to be extremely challenging to keep on a tight time schedule because the teachers and students had to run back and forth in order to communicate with one another. This took way too much energy and time which took away form running a flawless performance. A walkie talkie system would allow for effective communication to produce a seamless performance.
