I have taught dance and theatre for over 15 years and many times the show goes over with a thunderous applause. The students work hard at learning their lines and perfecting their choreography and despite challenges, they deliver a riveting performance. But what if they truly understood all of the background work that goes into putting on a production? Costumes, although one of the finishing touches on a production, have a huge impact on how the show will go over. Directors and choreographers labor intensely, in their heads and on paper, over the look that will bring each performer to life and then they have to make it a reality by any means necessary. If students were allowed to be a part of that process, how much more would they invest in their character? How much more would they understand and appreciate the work that goes into making them look their best on stage? Your donations will allow us to begin to build a fully functional costume shop where our students will learn everything that goes into making them come alive during a performance. They will be even more invested in the process to get to the final performance and they will gain yet another skill to carry on with them. My students need sewing machines and accessories for the machines to make costumes for our upcoming Spring musical, but the best part is that these items will help us many years to come.
