Help me give my students the tools to become tomorrow's thinkers and citizens: headphones to hear history's voices, maps to trace its path, and notebook supplies to build their own understanding of the world they'll inherit.

My Project

This year I'm welcoming a brand-new group of 6th graders into their first middle school history class. They're curious and a little unsure of themselves still. They ask good questions, but they are not always sure it's okay to ask them out loud. I want this class to be the place where that changes.

These supplies aren't extras, they're how my students actually learn to think like historians.

Headphones let them listen to primary source recordings and speeches on their own, at their own pace, instead of relying on me to read everything aloud. A world map and colored pencils let them trace trade routes and mark where empires rose and fell, so a name in a textbook becomes a real place. Glue sticks, scissors, and construction paper let them build notebooks where they annotate documents and lay out timelines in their own handwriting, not just copy mine off the board.

My goal is simple: give every student in that room a way into history that fits how they learn, right from the start of the year. My students are capable of real thinking. They just need the tools to show it.
