My students attend an inner city school whose student body is diverse, both academically and socioeconomically. Many of the students are English Language Learners and some were living in refugee camps. They have left their home countries for better lives and education.
My students are full of potential and eager to learn.
They come to school each and every day with smiles on their faces. They do not have the required materials at home to practice what is being taught in the classroom. The instruction they receive in my classroom is usually the extent of their learning time. The support at home is little to none, mostly due to the lack of materials. They need to develop the skills to keep up in a world that is full of literacy.
My Project
Our classroom is very large. We are so incredibly lucky to have such a big learning room. Unfortunately all of our furniture is broken, old, or mismatching. I am trying hard to get my students these beautiful chairs that they will use every day in small group math, science experiments with their partners, and book club discussions with their team members. The chairs that we have now are squeaky and they even fold up on some of our smaller fifth grade students. In these new comfortable plastic chairs, the other classmates will not hear their neighbors moving in their seats. Please help my students have a comfortable learning environment.
