Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
What a time to start my first year of teaching! Words cannot describe my excitement and energy as this year begins. I am taking on a wonderful group of third graders who are curious about the world around them as well as each other. My school is incredibly diverse and my own classroom is a mix of 3 languages! Over 70% of our families qualify for free or reduced-price meals
I strive to create and maintain a welcoming classroom community where our differences are celebrated and integrated in everything we do.
In a time where we are only able to connect virtually, I am providing as many physical resources as possible for students to explore at home. This includes books, math tools, and language development resources. I hope to bridge the gap between in-school and at-home learning as much as possible to ensure our classroom community thrives and supports each other's growth.
My Project
When Time for Kids is in the classroom, students devour the information! They love the articles, data, and kid perspectives that the magazines include! In my class, I plan to send these home for students to read and share with their families.
This is a great resource to help students engage in current events and discuss the information in a way that is kid-friendly and fun for them!
To further their discussion and critical thinking skills, I will provide virtual learning assignments based on the magazine articles. I can differentiate these assignments based on student interests and reading levels!
