My school is an inner-city school in which most of the population will be the first in their family to attend college. This school year, I am teaching Algebra 1. These classes will continue the mathematical foundations needed to be successful in college and beyond. My students plan on attending college when they graduate. They are in need of individualized, student-centered, math instruction that will focus on their mathematics skills so they can be more confident as they attend post-secondary school.
My Project
My students do not have the money to buy their own TI-84 graphing calculators. College math classes and SAT tests allow the use of these calculators, but my students do not have access. Because of the cost of one calculator (over $100) my students are not able to use this type of technology. This is a disadvantage to them as their families do not have the financial ability to pay. My low-income students will benefit from using these calculators in class. For years, these calculators have been the choice of mathematics educators. Please consider helping me purchase a classroom set.
